Rosemary turns off the ringing in the ears

Tinnitus (i.e. whistling, ringing or ringing in the ears), but also hearing loss, may have its cause in epigenetics.
You want to read a book in peace, but you can’t – your ears are constantly ringing, whistling or buzzing. You want to relax, but it’s always there. And when you go to bed at night, you have to turn on the TV or the fan, because otherwise the noises in your ears won’t let you sleep. The silence has disappeared from your life for good, and sometimes you feel like you’re going crazy. That’s how the disease called tinnitus manifests itself.
The term tinnitus is used for sounds that echo inside the ear without an external cause. These are not voices or other hallucinations, usually more like ringing, whistling, humming, crackling, etc. In addition, intrusive sounds are often accompanied by dizziness, nausea and hearing loss. It may seem like a trivial problem – you can’t die from ringing in your ears. But in some cases, the discomfort is so severe and bothersome that sufferers decide to end their lives by suicide.
The number of people suffering from this problem is estimated at 70 million in Europe alone. More than 2% of them have a problem so severe that it prevents them from leading a normal life.
There are many possible causes of tinnitus and the remedy is often difficult. However, phytotherapy, especially rosemary, can bring great relief.
How does tinnitus arise?
A common cause of tinnitus is impaired blood supply to the ear due to atherosclerosis, often in conjunction with high blood pressure. One theory also states that a common cause of tinnitus is the accumulation of fluid inside the ear. This would explain why women often suffer from this problem in the period before menstruation, when there is increased water retention in the body.
Another possible cause is degeneration of the hair cells in the ear, which may be related to age, trauma, infection or repeated exposure to excessive noise – in these cases, tinnitus is usually associated with hearing loss. Some people also develop tinnitus as a reaction to taking salicylate – typically after taking aspirin, but high doses of other drugs – some antibiotics, beta-blockers, diuretics or chemotherapy – can also cause problems. However, abnormal bone growth, aneurysms, stress and many people even hear the sounds in their ears at times of great emotional stress, such as when they are angry, can also play a role.
Recently, there has also been a lot of research on the influence of genetics and epigenetics on the development of tinnitus. While few results are available, it appears that this problem is often related to increased DNA methylation. This is a condition where methyl groups CH3- are attached to the so-called promoters of important genes, causing the organism to be unable to read the gene and make proteins based on it. It is therefore the same as if it were not in the DNA at all.
It also appears that in many cases tinnitus is associated with a lack of serotonin. This substance acts as a so-called neurotransmitter that ensures the transmission of signals between individual nerve cells. A lack of serotonin is typical of depression, for example.
Rosemary turns on dysfunctional genes
Tinnitus is one of the disorders where natural therapies are often more effective than conventional treatments. Ginkgo biloba is most often recommended, but this only works for a limited number of cases – mostly those where the main cause is limited blood supply to the ear area.
Rosemary has a much broader effect. It works not only in cases of tinnitus that are associated with high blood pressure, but also for a wide range of other causes. Rosemary contains three substances that have epigenetic action – rosmarinic acid, carnosol and carnosic acid. These can effectively change the methylation patterns of a number of important genes (especially in the sense of demethylation), thereby switching back on those that have been switched off and therefore non-functional. And, as we mentioned above, it is the increased methylation of genes that is typical of tinnitus sufferers.
In addition, regular use of rosemary, whether in the form of teas or capsules, not only leads to a significant reduction or even disappearance of unpleasant sounds in the ears, but also counteracts dizziness, nausea and hearing problems.

If tinnitus is accompanied by a lack of serotonin, it is advisable to supplement rosemary by taking L-tryptophan, an amino acid from which serotonin is produced in the body. Serotonin alone is not used as it cannot cross the barrier between the bloodstream and the brain. In some cases, potassium is also recommended to counteract fluid build-up.
Natural medicine sometimes recommends a quite unique procedure in the form of daily consumption of a little breast milk. However, its effectiveness has not yet been scientifically confirmed, not to mention the fact that it is a raw material that will be difficult to find.
In any case, however, it is worth supplementing herbal treatment with lifestyle modifications, especially regular exercise and a healthier diet; smoking can also worsen the problems.
Epigenetics and hearing loss
However, it is not only tinnitus that is epigenetic in nature, but also many cases of hearing loss. For example, the deterioration of hearing with age may not be a fact of life that simply has to be accepted. In fact, several scientific studies have shown that hearing loss is closely related to the degree of methylation of certain genes in our DNA, which literally turns them off. However, other chemical reactions, particularly acetylation and methylation of histones, also have a significant effect on the activity of important genes.
Some of these epigenetic changes occur during intrauterine development, while many others are added during life, especially as a result of an inappropriate lifestyle.
A common feature of epigenetic reactions is that they are reversible. Therefore, unless structural changes to the auditory system have occurred (especially during intrauterine development), it is possible to either reverse or at least halt hearing loss. Lifestyle modifications are necessary, especially healthy eating, regular exercise, maintaining an optimal weight and avoiding environmental toxins. Dietary supplements containing nutrients or herbs with significant epigenetic potential can be of great help.
In addition to rosemary, omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids are a very promising substance . These are known to have a positive effect on DNA methylation levels, but they also help prevent hearing loss by affecting homocysteine metabolism.

Resveratrol (a dye found in grape wine) can also help. A study by Dr. Michael Seidman, for example, showed that its use prevents hearing damage from excessive noise exposure. However, since this substance generally slows cellular ageing, it is thought to be effective in trying to slow age-related hearing loss.

Carotenoids (especially astaxanthin), vitamins C and E, folic acid and zinc also prevent hearing loss.

Hello, chronic tinnitus without an objective cause is not an ear problem, but a complex neurological problem. Therefore, treatments aimed at curing the ear fail (betaserc, cavinton, infusion, laser, barometric chamber, ginkgo biloba, etc.). What you describe in the article may work well for so-called disco tinnitus, or tinnitus in the acute phase. However, if the tinnitus is in a chronic phase and the brain becomes fixated on the tinnitus sound, then treating the ear will not help because it is not related to it. So the way to cure is to make the brain stop amplifying the natural sound in the ear and turn it off. I cured tinnitus myself, so I know what I’m talking about. Hello,
Thank you very much for your valuable suggestions and we hope they will help as many people as possible. Of course, rosemary is not a panacea, but its effectiveness in treating tinnitus is surprisingly high. Although its recommendation for this problem is still a novelty in the Czech Republic, we have already received some very positive feedback, even in the case of chronic tinnitus, where one user even experienced an improvement of about 90% (his subjective estimate).
Hello we have found an enlarged heart murmur prickling and burning at the heart I can’t uš come out even stairs sdudenej under potadte
Hello,
it’s hard to give advice from a distance, your problems may have a number of causes. There are a number of remedies that work well on the heart, apart from rosemary, such as pomegranate or turmeric, but usually this needs to be combined with a general lifestyle adjustment. It also depends on the medication you are taking.
I have about a month after being exposed to high noise humming, at times even whistling in my ear. Prescribed Tanakan. The condition is not improving. What course of action do you recommend with Rosemary? Is it enough to drink broths? Combine with something? Thank you for the answer.
Hello,
Rosemary can be drunk as an infusion (not a decoction), i.e. pour hot water over it and let it infuse for 10-15 minutes. Prefer rosemary from its natural habitat, for example from the Mediterranean, as it has a higher content of active ingredients. You can also take rosemary extract in capsules. An interesting folk medicine remedy is rosemary wine (rosemary is pickled in red wine and left to macerate for 8 days), as red wine is a source of epigenetically active resveratrol. However, I might add resveratrol capsules to this for greater effectiveness. Another great combination, especially for brain related conditions on the nervous system, is a combination of rosemary and omega-3.
I have had Tinnitus for 6 years.I was given the drug vinpocetine forte by ENT a year ago but only 10% improvement then I had hyperbaric chamber 9 times but it didn’t help plus after the 9th chamber I got purple rash for 14 days on my arms and abdomen.I was in the sleep lab and they found apnea as10az 15.I had septal surgery 28 years ago.It didn’t help.after 3 months.after the septal surgery my tinnitus got worse,in my left ear.in my right ear it went away.I took L …tryptophan and melatonin before the surgery.it was better then.now I can’t sleep but I fall asleep fast but wake up.3x.a.night.tin.is.quite.bearable.during.the.day.at.night.I.lie.down.on.the.off.ear.but.I.don’t.know.why.we.wake.up.3.times.a.night.my.mother.also.suffered.from.insomnia.I.should.take.tryptophan.and.melatonin.again.50mg.Or what should I do?I think it started at the cottage where the highway was humming.6 years ago the insomnia started.I didn’t notice the tinnitus then. Then we moved to the village and tractors drove past our house in the morning and in the evening till 11pm.Then I got used to it.but I still have tinnitus and it is worse. Please advise me.I am from Karlovy Vary from Toužim.I have a book of otinn.but I can’t go to Prague in my retirement.and I don’t have much money. What about rosemary herb? They write that it will improve.I don’t know what to do.
Hello,
it’s hard to make a diagnosis from a distance, but the fact is that insomnia can sometimes be caused by tinnitus medication. So it would be worth consulting a doctor for other treatment options.
Rosemary is perhaps the most effective choice in terms of natural medicine for tinnitus. It can be consumed as a tea, extract in capsules and tincture. I recommend combining it with the use of omega-3.
I wish you to see an improvement in all your problems as soon as possible and we will be glad for your feedback.
Hello, a month ago, after a stressful period, my ears started to buzz and hum alternately. What rosemary products would you recommend I combine? Which combination do you think would be most effective? Thank you
Hello,
Rosemary can be combined with omega-3, for example, and this combination is certainly suitable for tinnitus. You can also add resveratrol.
Hello, my brother has tinnitus drones in his head and it has been 4 years sometimes he has such conditions that he is uneven.
As I’ve written in other posts, rosemary is not a miracle cure, but it is clearly the most effective of the natural remedies – a large percentage of users experience at least an alleviation of their problems.
Hello, I’m 36 years old, I’ve had chronic Tinnitus ever since I was a kid, I’ve tried Ginkgo biloba, it didn’t help, so I would like to try Rosemary in capsules, as Mr. Studenik writes it’s not only about the ears but also the brain Does Rosemary also have any effect on the brain, does it have any shutdown effect? Something is mentioned in the article about DNa shutting something down…etc…and that Rosemary works on much broader causes of Tinnitus than Ginkgo biloba…that it can help with chronic tinnitus as well ? If so, how should it be used in the case of if it is Rosemary capsules…and when it might have an effect…I hope it doesn’t make anything worse.. Thank you for your reply.
Hello,
rosemary is the most effective natural remedy known for tinnitus. It does not work miracles, of course, but it does relieve the problem in a very high percentage of users. It is advisable to supplement it with omega-3.
