Adrenal glands

The adrenal glands are a very often underestimated and overlooked organ, yet they play a very important role in the body in maintaining internal homeostasis. Among other things, this organ is responsible for the production of stress hormones, which are secreted during physical or mental stress. When we are stressed, there are basically two situations: the first is a prolonged increased secretion of stress hormones (e.g. cortisol), which can manifest itself, for example, in increased blood glucose levels, loss of muscle mass or immune disorders. The second possibility is that prolonged exposure to stress exhausts the adrenal glands, leading to adrenal fatigue, which results in insufficient production of stress hormones and disruption of the body’s homeostasis.
