It is a gynaecological disease affecting 5-10% of women of childbearing age, caused by hormonal imbalance. The pituitary gland secretes an excessive amount of luteinizing hormone, which is necessary, for example, for the regulation of the menstrual cycle, but if there is an excess of it, the ovarian follicles begin to produce male sex hormones. This results in male characteristics such as fat accumulation in the abdomen, excessive hair growth or hair loss. Infertility can also be a consequence.
