Crohn’s disease

Crohn’s disease is one of the inflammatory bowel diseases. According to research, about 15% is genetically determined, while the remainder is due to environmental and lifestyle factors that may influence the activity of important genes through epigenetic pathways. In particular, different levels of DNA methylation have been observed in patients, but also differences in miRNA regulation. Although a list of specific genes influencing disease development through this pathway is not yet available, there is a good chance that we can use epigenetics to directly influence the cause of disease. Moreover, the epigenetic pathway can significantly suppress the course of inflammation and thus effectively mitigate the course of the disease; taking care of the gut microbiome and the integrity of the gut wall is also key.
