ADHD

ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, affects about 7% of children and about 60% of them carry the problem into adulthood. The causes are partly genetic, but epigenetic influences also play a major role, particularly the degree of methylation of genes that are associated with the development of ADHD. The course of pregnancy also matters – poor nutrition, negative psychological states and a disturbed gut microbiome of the mother, as well as negative epigenetic patterns of both parents at the time of conception, increase the risk of developing ADHD.
Regular exercise and overall dietary improvement is important in ADHD – especially limiting carbohydrate intake, getting enough protein and micronutrients. The balance of the gut microbiome should also be supported.
